As if we needed more proof that Mark 42 is the Moon Moon of Tony’s suits.

this was my biggest problem with the movie
the suits fell apart if you sneezed on them

whereas in the past movies they could take a hit from thor’s hammer and just get scratched

It was implied that all of the suits were prototypes in the secret underground vault thing, since they were a product of Tony obsessive just making a bunch of suits consecutively. Jarvas says in the beginning that the Mark 42 wasn’t ready for combat, which is why Tony is basically Tony-man through the movie, rather than Iron Man.
